In March, 2024 while we were living and working in Boulder, CO, we completed a trip to Japan to celebrate Leah’s 50th birthday during Cherry Blossom season and visit Atsuko, Leah’s second cousin and last living relative in Japan.

Both of us had been to Japan before, Karl on a business trip and Leah with her mother who is half Japanese. But neither of us had been there for over 20 years and, as we learned, things had changed. Specifically, Japan has become a much more popular travel destination.
