“Laying Back to Roots”

Spending time in nature is one of the best ways to slow down, ground yourself, and truly become present to life. Whether it’s a walk through the forest, a moment by the water, or climbing rocks in canyon lands—even a brief escape into nature has the power to reset my mind and spirit.

As an empath, I’m especially sensitive to my surroundings. Cities can be exciting, but the noise and energy drain me quickly. I do my best to choose my environments intentionally, but when that isn’t possible, a retreat to the ocean is my fastest route to restoration—no matter what energy I’ve absorbed along the way.

There’s nothing quite like the cleansing and healing power of the ocean. The rhythmic crash of the waves soothes the mind. The salt in the air feels purifying, as though it’s washing away heaviness I didn’t even know I carried. For centuries, salt has been revered for its ability to cleanse, protect, and heal, and standing on a beach makes it easy to understand why.

Laying Back to Roots

Have you ever visited a beach town that wasn’t laid back? Karl and I made our way to Zipolite, on the eastern coast of Oaxaca, and found exactly what we needed—a slower pace, open air, and a break from long drives and constant change.

If you ever feel lost in the speed of life, find the salt of the earth to bring you back to your roots. Nature has a way of giving back the energy you’ve lost.
