Our Top 10 Overland Gadgets and Gear List
Gear the Made the Cut
Here’s a list of everyday gear we’ve brought or picked up along the way that has genuinely improved our overland adventure.
These are practical, portable, and helpful—not big-ticket items like bikes or winches (we’ll cover those separately).
In no particular order:
- BOSE SoundLink Revolve / Revolve+
- Compact yet powerful with 360° sound.
- Revolve II: up to 13-hour battery life; Revolve+ II: up to 17 hours.

- Bialetti Induction Espresso Maker
- Essential for a proper morning Americano or cappuccino.
- Works great on induction cooktops—opt for a 3-cup size for two servings.
- 3‑Quart Instant Pot
- Fast and versatile for cooking beans, meats, and vegetables—great for nutritious camp meals.
- Garmin Turn‑by‑Turn GPS
- We use a Garmin Drive 51 with offline maps—reliable when cell reception is absent.
- Garmin inReach Satellite Communicator
- Keeps you connected beyond cell range with two-way text and emergency SOS.

6. Trekking Umbrella (euroSCHIRM Swing Liteflex)
- Lightweight and perfect for both sun and rain, great for hiking and general shade.
- Weighted Cocktail Shakers
- Because an occasional margarita can go a long way. We like Koriko weighted tins for their balance and feel.
- Electric Bug Zapper
- Mosquito-free shores and campsites make evenings much more pleasant.
- Black Diamond Distance Carbon Z Trekking Poles
- Excellent for hiking, running, and gently keeping overly friendly street dogs at bay.
- ili Translation Device
- Ideal when you’re offline and need quick translation—sometimes even better than Google Translate.
